Our process from start to finish

There’s a lot to the process of making timber windows and doors before they’re installed in your home such as initial design, spray painting finishes and everything in between. It can be a long process to create your perfect windows and doors but it’s all worthwhile when they’re finally fitted, looking stylish and you’re saving money on heating bills!

Here at Carrs, we want to make sure we’re creating the perfect windows and doors for you, working with you to agree the exact design, choose which material will be best and help pick a colour that will compliment your home. We used to love showing people around our workshop! But with Covid-19 putting a stop to that, we thought we’d take you through the process here on our blog instead!

Design

We work with you to agree a design that is right for your home and budget and will function how you’d like it to. If you send us a photo of the space and measurements, we can look at options and ideas available to you and draw them up for you to see.

Customer Sign-Off

Once the design has been agreed and you are happy with the shape, materials and colour, we will carry out a full on-site survey to get exact measurements. We can then get to work creating it in our workshop.

Spray on primer, colour and finish

After the windows or doors have been made, it’s then ready to go into the spray booth. Before any colour can go on, the wood needs to be primed so when the colour does go on, it doesn’t soak into the timber. Between each coat of primer and colour the windows and doors need to be hung to dry so the paint can set properly. The final coat can then be sprayed on in a matte or glossy look, depending on your preference.

Installing the Glass

The windows and doors are then put back together, the hardware put on and we will either install the glass in the workshop, or on-site once the frame has been installed (this helps keep the weight down).

However, you might choose to add stained glass or want to transfer stained glass from your old windows or doors.

Installing them in your home

The windows and/or doors can now be installed in your home! We will come and make sure everything is fitted correctly and you’re happy with the final result. We also ensure we tidy up once the installation is complete so there’s no mess left behind.

We also offer a supply only service, so if you’re already working with a builder or joiner, we can have the products delivered to them for installation or direct to the property. Alternatively, they are welcome to collect them from our workshop at a time convenient to them.
