Below are five questions we recommend asking if you’re thinking of getting new doors and windows:
The top light refers to the window area above your front door and will be replaced if you’re getting a new front door. If your top light includes stained glass, you could maintain the character of your home by asking whether this can be preserved and refitted. With this previous job we completed, we worked with D Sunderland Glass to encapsulate the stained glass – this is a glazing process which essentially means the stained glass now sits between a double glazed unit. We also replace the door frame to ensure your home is fully weather proofed, for stability of the door and in order to use multi-point locking systems, which improves safety.
When creating windows and doors we offer timber, UPVC and Aluminium. All three are better suited to certain conditions and this depends on each individual property, personal taste and budget.
It’s worth checking if you require planning permission or if there are any covenants in place, so you know what you are allowed.
Timber (we mostly use Accoya) is water-resistant, weather-resistant and great at keeping the heat in and the cold out. It is sustainably made and modified using a cutting-edge patent technology which enables it to resist rot, is thermally efficient and lasts for decades, plus it can be painted to any colour of your choosing! Our most popular colours are matched to the Farrow & Ball, Little Greene and Dulux range. Accoya Timber windows and doors are built to last and are extremely low maintenance. Aluminium and UPVC also offer a wide range of colours as you can choose any RAL colour. These can also be a more cost effective option.
Once you’ve chosen your materials and have decided on a colour for your new windows and doors, it’s time to think about what kind of accessories and hardware you’d like. Choose from letterboxes, knockers and numbers. This can all be dependent on personal taste and what style of house you live in. If you live in a traditional country or farm house, black or pewter hardware can really compliment the traditional features of the house and keep the farmhouse aesthetic, whereas chrome, stainless steel and gold hardware often suit more modern and contemporary windows and doors. If you need any help choosing hardware, it’s always handy to ask what hardware is available and what the company recommend. This is a very commonly asked question and it does differ depending on demand, whether you’re opting for supply only or supply and install, the material being used and the size of the job. Our advice is to contact us as early as possible into a project, to allow plenty of time to make decisions and to fit us in at the right time for your project.
Do I have to do my own tidying up once the job is complete?
